For those that live n the Columbus, Ohio area, our campus ministry will be hosting a lectue called Dr. Michael Licona: The Resurrection of Jesus: Fact or Fiction? An Examination of the Historical Evidence for The Resurrection of Jesus. The event will be Feb 9th, 2016, 7:00 pm, in the Great Hall Meeting Room, in the the Ohio Union.

When it comes to the Christian faith, one of the most important doctrines is the resurrection of the dead/the resurrection of Jesus. Biblical faith is not simply centered in ethical and religious teachings. Instead, it is founded on the person and work of Jesus. If Jesus was not raised from the dead, we as His followers are still dead in our sins (1Cor.15:7). Jesus said in John 11:25, “I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in me shall live even of he dies.” Jesus could not have made full atonement for our sins without the resurrection. Also, through the resurrection, Jesus took on the role as advocate and intercessor (1 John. 2:2; Rom. 8:34). His resurrection also guaranteed us the opportunity of having a resurrected body’s like His (1 Cor.15:20-23, 51-53; 1 Pet.1:3; Phil. 3:20-21; John. 5:25-29).

But with these issues come a host of questions:

1. Is there good evidence that Jesus physically rose from the dead?

2. Can we trust the witnesses who testified that they saw the risen Jesus?

3. What about other naturalistic scenarios that attempt to explain away the resurrection of Jesus?

Dr Michael Licona is co- author of The Case for the Resurrection of Jesus and has also published the massive The Resurrection of Jesus: A New Historiographical Approach. He has debated Bart Ehrman, Shabir Ally, skeptic Richard Carrier, and others. He is considered one of the top resurrection apologists.
